I have a 2024 HEV. I'm pretty happy with it, other than one quirk. When I'm going down long hills, my automatic transmission is downshifting, turning on the gas engine. Like it needs to engine brake me. I'm thinking I should be able to coast down hills on battery. I haven't figured that one out.

@daveshel : When coasting down hills, the HEV will regeneratively charge the battery until the battery is full. At that point, it will downshift and use engine braking, as you say, to control speed without over charging the battery.
Living in the mountains, I often wish I had a button to push to tell it to prefer battery power so I could start long downhills at a lower state of charge,

I’m on my 3rd sportage. I had a 2016, 2020 and now a 2023. I love them. Yes 2023 is the new body style. And it is far superior to the earlier ones.
