spool, I am not 100% sure I am giving you accurate system design info however the manner in which it was explained to me was that the compressor clutch has been replaced with a selinoid valve that is controlled either by the system controls or the hi/low pressure safety switch.in one position it will have Freon bypass the compressor action and in the other position Freon must travel thru the compressor for system operation. I. Thought it pretty neat considering we have finally eliminated the electromagnetic clutch and the compressor is less apt to derail the serpentine when the clutch locks up. However the solenoid valve is prone to sticking with age or high mileage.
