I have found it best on long trips to put it in auto using the HEV button and smart mode using the dial. Short trips around town, I leave it in EV mode and Eco as it uses strictly battery. A 110V charger on 12A will charge you up overnight. If you need it charged faster, then a 220V at 32A will get you charged up in about 2 hours.
