Can you explain why it is that the miles per gallon will improve as the engine breaks in? I bought a Hybrid to get decent gas mileage and I'm getting 26 to 27 mpg. I've put about 1800 miles on it so far.

Breaking the hybrid battery in. Brand new, it will fluctuate between just over and just under 50% charge. So not much use of battery. 3Kish miles later, battery usage will be 75-25%. Many more battery-only miles improves overall mpg. You can watch the hybrid system graphic while driving consistently on highway, to see this.
