Adaptive Cruise

Hello all. Just hoping someone could explain how... when the "adaptive cruise" is set and slowing itself down when the car in front gets too close, slowing to match the followed vehicle, it's a wonderful advancement but... when it slowing is it always using brakes or maybe just coasting at times and if so will that not lessen the life span of the brakes significantly? TY

Great question. I believe it brakes when needed but will coast otherwise. I'd love to get more input as I'm curious to be certain as well...
