Windshield washer oddity

We have been driving our new 2023 Sportage for a year now and have just now discovered that when we operate the windshield washer, the ventilation system switches to "inside air" mode. Not sure this was that way the whole time or the result of possibly the display screen swap out recall. Anyone else come across this issue?

I believe its an on-purpose "feature" to avoid sucking in the windshield washer fluid fumes from under the air intake cowl at the top of the hood, near the windshield.
