Is Extended Warranty worthwhile?

I'm about to take delivery of a 2024 Sportage in Ontario Canada. Is the Extended warranty the dealer is offering worthwhile? $3,800 Cdn for 10 Year 200,000 km . I hear the Instrument panel/ entertainment module is worth approx $3k . Do dealers and the manufacturer actually honor the warranty? Thx
 
No. It is not worthwhile. $3,800 buys a lot of repairs. The electronics is the least of your worries. Trying to get compensated under the warranty can be a huge hassle. Kia already has a fantastic warranty. This is just pure profit for your dealer. Most warranty issues will crop up in the first year, if not first week of usage. And the only way it works out in your best interest is if you "win" the warranty lottery, but in a very negative way...Save your money.
 
I decided to buy it. My Sportage is the HEV with a 1.6 turbo, so there's an awful lot that can go wrong. Mine was around 3000 because I qualified for a discount based on a past employer. I live close to the dealership so I intend to have it serviced there while it's under warranty. The extended warranty seemed to fill all the gaps in the already pretty good KIA warranty.

I have never bought an extended warranty on any product in my 75 years. I did buy a 1980 Subaru that had been "rustproofed" at the point of entry. (No choice.) It had rust faster than any other car I have ever owned and the "warranty" with the rustproofing was worthless.

i just picked up new 2025 Sportage Hybrid this week. I declined the 3 different packages (extended warranty, something about wheels/tires, something about etching/stolen car replacement coverage) the finance person offered to me.

I do plan to purchase extended warranty from a Kia dealership after I shop best price. This can be done after car purchase.

- I did not buy it for my 1990 Nissan 240 SX but wish I did after costly repairs.
- I did not buy it for my 1999 Toyota Camry and had no regrets
- I did buy it for my 2007 Toyota Odyssey and it more than paid for itself
- I did buy it for my 2010 Toyota Highlander and it more than paid for itself

My reasons:
- I tend to keep my car for a long time (7+ years).
- These new cars have more and more gadgets.
- I bought it for my last 2 new car purchases and glad I did
 
I got it on the electronics. I'm not to concerned about the rest (I do most of my own work and I baby my cars...lol). But since there is SO much electronics in this Sportage, I definitely think it's worth at least that much coverage imo.

The Toyota owners forum had a member who works in finance at dealership. He posted his price (way less than what was offered during car sell) and got tons of business from readers. Win-win. I’m hoping to see same here.

I’ll update this thread with price I’m getting quoted in case anyone else looking for the same thing.

I am looking at a 2023 Sportage SX with 34k miles and the dealer (at Honda) is offering a lifetime powertrain warranty for $1,995. I am more concerned with the electronics tbh as the 2019 CRV I have now has a problem where all dash lights come on at the same time. There does not appear to be a clear repair option for the CRV other than "try this". Is the Platinum a bumper to bumper warranty? How long does it last?
 
Kia will give you a refund for the warranty when you trade in. I have never bought new. I always buy lease returns. The warranty definitely pays for itself if buying used.

I'm also looking at buying a 2026 Sportage exl with 35,000 km and the salesman wants sell my $4000 warranty for 100,000....... Isn't this alot of money?
