KIA Newby here. I managed to plug it in!

You probably have the charger on the default 6A. It can go up to 12A, but be careful w/your breaker! Check your manual.

Do I do that on the stock level 1 charging cable apparatus? I'll check it out. It says 06 when I press a button but I don't see any other controls.
UPDATE: I got it to run at 12A. It's quite warm, I'll check to see if it gets too hot.

I ran mine on 12A in the hot florida sun and it did fine. Yes, it gets warm but worked flawlessly for 3 weeks out in the sun and then evening storms.

Assuming it is on a dedicated circuit of 15 or more amps and the wiring is up to code (AWG 14 or heavier for 15 amps), 12 amps draw should be fine. 12 amps is only 80% of 15 amps, which is the maximum recommended continuous draw. If a 20 amp circuit, 12 amps is only 60%, well below the allowable continuous draw.

Power going through wiring will produce heat. Keeping at 80% of the maximum amperage for the circuit will not produce enough heat to be a problem.

What should the charging time be from zero to 100% in the plug in battery?
And does the battery need a few cycles to charge more efficiently?

I have a hybrid, not a PHEV, so I have no experience with charging a PHEV. Probably someone else with experience will pitch in.

I can tell you the time to charge will depend on a number of variables besides the maximum charge rate. Battery charging is not linear (constant rate.)

For the best lifespan of the battery, it is best to not take it below 20% charge very frequently and charging to not much more than 80% most of the time. Do some research on battery charging for maximum life. You will learn more than I can explain here.

Using a level 2 charger will only take a couple hours. Using the level 1 that comes with the car (set to 12) will take around 6 to 8 hours depending on how far down the car has utilized the battery.
I have a 2024 Kia Sportage PHEV X-Line Prestige. Do you know what is the maximum charging current that the car can accept? As you may know, some Level 2 chargers have 40, 32, 24 and 16 amperes output options. I am trying to figure out what is the maximum I need to set my charger. Thanks.
