2025 Kia Sportage Hybrid Poor Mileage / Poor Customer Service
Since picking up my 2023 EX Hybrid in May of 2023, I have driven just short of 19,000 miles and have averaged 38.5 MPG. My last couple of fill ups have been just over 41 MPG. I live in the high mountains of WV. so a lot of up and down hills or Interstate highway driving. Not too much city driving.

That sounds really frustrating, especially with the mileage and service issues.
We have almost 10k on a 2024 Prestige Hybrid and it seems to do the best in metro type traffic with a lot of coasting and stop and go. Slower type of driving. When we drive over 65 the EV rarely kicks in. 25-26 mpg is basically it. Winter is definitely worse as is expected. The entire life average is 28 so far. You would think a 1.6 liter turbo would be better than that at interstate speeds. I’m guessing the charging system take a lot of power. The Toyota Rav 4 hybrids are still much better at highway speeds. But the price tag is higher.
When shopping for a new car 2 years ago, my final choice came down to the Kia Sportage Hybrid or the Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. The deciding factor was a 6-month wait (according to the Toyota dealer OR find a Sportage Hybrid on a lot somewhere. I kept browsing the inventory of Kia dealers within reasonable driving range and finally hit upon the car I ended up buying. I contacted the dealer. I was told that the car was at the port of Philadelphia and they were awaiting shipment to their dealership. I told them I would buy it, sight unseen. I would have been happy to buy the Rav4 due to its somewhat better mileage estimates.

I have my 2024 since Aug, of 24. It has about 8300 miles. I am averaging 34 since day 1. That includes a NY to Florida round trip(2600 mi) and 3 round trips from NY to Maine(600 mi. each).I recently leased a 2025 Kia Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige. With under 900 miles the EMC (Electric Motor Controller) went out. After five weeks in the shop it was finally replaced but with the worst customer service I've experienced with a new car. This is my first (and probably last) Kia.
What really gets me though is that I'm only averaging roughly 20 to 22 mpg with 1,500 miles on the vehicle. I have a light foot, am not carrying any cargo and the wheels are all inflated properly. I called Kia and they said it was the cold weather. No one mentioned that my mileage would essentially be cut in half with cold weather when I was looking at the car. It's supposed to get close to 40 mpg city/hwy. While the vehicle has some spiffy features the main reason I got it was for the mileage. Not too happy right about now.
A couple of months ago, I took my 2023 Sportage EX Hybrid to the dealer for an update of software related to battery charging, as I understood it. Since then my mileage has noticeably improved. I am now getting well over 40 MPG each tankful. Since the last fill-up, I have driven 197.4 miles and averaged 44.6 MPG.

The mileage they rate as 38 mpg is based upon driving slow, 55-65. I can get the 38 MPG driving like that. However I typically drive at 80 MPH otherwise I would get shot in CA for driving too slow. With the 80MPH I get 30-32 MPG per tank of gas.
The mileage they rate as 38 mpg is based upon driving within the posted speed limit. I think that is reasonable.
You will never get max efficiency driving faster than speed limit. And a higher chance to get pulled over by cops. The rated mileage is assuming the ideal road condition and driving within speed limits. Filled my 2023 EX HEV today. Since last refill, 397.1 miles driven, took 9.032 gal to fill = 43.97 MPG. Color me happy.

I was really disappointed in my 2025 KIA Prestige Hybrid SX AWD gas mileage. I have software on my phone to monitor my driving for my insurance and I drive slow and carefully. The most and best mileage I have ever gotten is 33.6 and I only have 5600 miles on my vehicle The window sticker advertises 38 MPG and reddit and other online posts states 40-41 MPG. This is why purchased this vehicle. I feel I was mislead on gas mileage. I traded in a 2020 Toyota RAV4 hybrid limited that always got 41 MPG city and better on the highway. The Toyota does better than there sticker price! I would be leary if you are buying the KIA Sportage hybrid for the gas mileage.

I bought my Kia Sportage Hybrid in May, I drive a TON, I have over 15,000 miles on it, I was thinking something was wrong with my car and it is really awful on miles per "gallon". I was expecting to pay less in gas weekly, because I driver so much. This car does not get 38 miles to the gallon at all, I thought I had a lemon car till I read more reviews. I wish I would have waited to get it, I heard my friend stating she was getting more than 40 on the 2025 Sorento. My Sprotage is at 28 and I tested it with my own calculation, I filled up and and checked for a month, even when it says 32 mpg on your reading it is actually 28 mpg. Super deceiving and feel duped... I wish I could return for false advertisement as I paid 41,000 out the door for it, it does have all the bells and whistles with panoramic sun roof etc. but not worth it when my reason for purchase was MPG...

So sounds like you are driving 3K mi/mo and probably mostly on the highway? And at speeds in the 70's or higher? And with not much traffic to slow you down? If so, then that MPG sounds close enough to be expected. But I've only seen MPG that low when I drive 80 on the highway in the dead of winter, w/a bunch of people and luggage in the car. If you watch your battery meter on the highway driving in any mode but Sport - does it charge all the way up to 75% before flipping into EV mode and draining it down to almost 25% before the ICE kicks back in? If not, there may be an issue w/your hybrid battery. Maybe it never got fully broken in during the first 3-4K miles? You can try driving in Sport mode a few times and making sure the battery charges up to 100% before flipping back to Eco or Smart mode and draining the battery back to 25%. But a hybrid is most efficient in city/stop & go driving. That's what they were originally designed for. They can get worse mileage on the highway than a regular ICE, as the electric motor isn't used enough to really help much and a hybrid is heavier w/batteries and an electric motor to haul around by the ICE, and at faster, pushing-more-air, less efficient speeds. So a non-hybrid can be better for driving lots of highway miles efficiently where there isn't normally much stop & go traffic. I know, too late for that...But your low mileage results do seem a bit unusual w/o having more info to go by on your driving conditions.
With my 2023 EX Hybrid AWD, I have been consistently getting low-40s (usually 42-43) MPG driving in the Allegheny Highlands of WV. That includes almost NO stop-and-go driving, but a lot of up-and-down hills.
I posted this before, but when going on any non-local trips that include some highway, use SMART mode. It works better than ECO. I have been averaging 3-4 more mpg on trips since I started doing that. 2024 now has 13k miles on it and overall average has been going up, and is now almost 38, where it used to be around 34 before I started changing modes. This includes all types of driving.
My son is happy with the 34 his shows that he's getting. For some reason he doesn't want to put pencil to paper like I've always done. Doesn't matter to me, it's HIS ride, not mine.
