There is no “PO” for Korean-made hybrids, despite what your dealer may tell you. The factory has no idea you have an “order” in. What happens is a dealer puts in a request w/KIA USA for an allocation. KIA USA totals them all up and tells KIA, we have current demand for 2000 black Sportage EXs, 1000 blue ones, etc. KIA tries its best to meet the various countries needs, but builds what makes most sense efficiently for its factory based on parts on hand, etc. As cars come off the factory line and get assigned to boats, KIA USA “allocates” them to various dealers based on the volume that they do. If you are working with a small dealer that gets allocated only 1 car/mo and that dealer has other customers in line ahead of you, you may be waiting for a VERY long time. Best to call/email many different dealers, preferably higher volume ones (more allocations) and try to find one that has an open allocation. If successful, they will give you a VIN #. No VIN # = no car. VIN #’s come out when car is loaded on the boat. Window stickers come out when port installed options have been decided, so either just before or just after arriving. The exception is a “special order” within KIA USA which only specifies what options get installed at the port when the car comes in. DON’T DO THIS. It slows your allocation down for months. You can add all of those options later and save money on non-OEM versions. And DON’T place a deposit without a VIN #. It’s your only leverage. And contact as many dealers as possible to find one. Can even be much cheaper to find a non-markup dealer 2 states over and have it shipped. Otherwise, you will be waiting, and waiting…but you know that part of the process already.Hello-not sure where I should be posting this but here I go. Placed ($ down) on 2023 mid level hybrid Sportage (non plug in) 8/4/23; informed, at the time , ETA3-4 months. It’s now December and am told (after much pursuit of staff) that Kia Manufacturer has not acknowledged the PO. Every time I have called in for updates- have received lots of run-around and zero transparency as to what I can really expect. Now I’m at the point that purchase will no longer be 2023, but a 2024 with no line of sight for ETA. -now it’s ‘maybe’ Feb-March. I live in Tucson, Az, granted, not the size of Phoenix but still not a tiny town. Can anyone help with ETA? I am loosing my Witts here. Ty
I have already contacted a law firm McKenzie Lake Lawyers LLP out of London Ontario with the intent of starting a class action against Kia Canada. At this point they are uninterested because there doesn't seems to by any consumer interest. Hopefully that will change. Many Kia customers are frustratingly waiting for the delivery of the vehicles they have ordered. Seeing many of those vehicles on a large lot that are intentionally being delayed delivery is a real cause for concern. It would seem to me that a good qualified consumer advocate law firm would be interested in filing a class action lawsuit against Kia Canada. Or, perhaps a provincial or national law official with the authority to challenge these delays could take action. How about it?
