I have a 2011 Kia SX. It has started making a screeching sound like nails in a chalkboard or some metal rubbing somewhere. Thought it was the brakes at first. Changed the front brakes totally. Checked the rear. One of the sliding pins was seized up pretty good but otherwise, brakes were in good shape. Thought it might be the drive shaft or u joints…mechanic checked and that’s all fine. Does it a lot slowing down and at first taking off, but will intermittently make the rubbing sound going down the road. At times more than others. Anyone have any clue what it could be?

Doesn’t make the sound idling at all with the hood up, or reving the engine. Not doubting that could be a possibility, I know what you’re referring to, but it’s a different sound. In the past I’ve had belts making an “opera” type sound, this sounds more like a piece of metal rubbing something. 🤷‍♂️

So sound is only when car is moving? Wheel bearing?
Correct, only when moving; forward at that. Had the wheel bearings checked today as well when we had it up on the lift. Wheel bearings are fine too. Per the mechanic. Had a front wb replaced about two months ago. No issues after it. Hit a deer month and half ago. Just front end light damage. Grill; hood etc.
